After the Publish.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these “after the publish” devlogs, but I just wanted to say a few things.
The idea for this game came to me while I was out with some friends—drinking, relaxing, and just enjoying ourselves. We were at a foggy beach spot, and I remember staring out at the shoreline, talking about how beautiful it looked. Later that night, I crashed at a friend’s place since I was far from home. I fell asleep instantly, like I’d been knocked out.
In my sleep, I had a strange dream. I woke up on that exact same beach, except this time it was even foggier. I had a metal detector in my hand, and I swear I saw something in the fog—a figure of some sort. There was also this massive building with stairs that felt like they took 10 minutes to climb. When I finally reached the top and opened the door, I suddenly fell... and woke up in real life, startled. I knew right then: this was going to be my next game. I quickly jotted the idea down in my notes app.
When I got home, I opened Unity and started a new project. I spent about a week developing the game, most of that time writing code for the metal detector and building a new first-person controller. Creating the environment was surprisingly smooth—it didn’t require many resources. If you’re curious, you can find some of my development progress inside the ‘Goodies’ folder included with the game.
I really tried to make this a horror game, though I admit it's been about 8 months since I last touched Unity. So, I apologize if it doesn’t feel too scary. I aimed to blend horror, adventure, and surrealism—genres I’ve always loved.
So far, the game has received 166 downloads and 706 views. Honestly, I’m happy with that. People even made videos on it, and that means a lot to me.
Right now, I’ve started preliminary development on a new project. I know it’ll be a much more challenging one—it’s going to require implementing ‘states,’ something I haven’t worked with before. But I really want to raise the bar with this next game. I’ll keep you updated as it progresses.
Lastly, thank you so much to everyone who played this game. It’s my first release of 2025, and I really appreciate all the feedback you’ve shared with me.
Till next time! :)
